The Minton Hollins story started with Herbert Minton (1801-1858) who in 1828 took an interest in reviving the lost art of making medieval encaustic tiles and developed a passion for improving the manufacture of ceramic tiles. He succeeded with his developments, and with various partners perfected manufacturing techniques for encaustic floor tiles and glazed ceramic wall tiles. In 1845 Michael Daintry Hollins joined Minton whose specialty / expertise was with glazes and glaze techniques thus forming the Minton Hollins brand. Minton Hollins & Co became part of Cambells, Richards, and then in 1968 H & R Johnson Richards Tiles Ltd. Minton Hollins is now the prestigious Brand manufactured by Johnson Tiles. This is renowned for its authentic hand decorated designs, specialist glazing techniques and its extensive range of profiled/molding tiles. This coupled with the latest in manufacturing technology makes the Minton Hollins range one of the established and exclusive names within the ceramics industry.
